Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients who require combination therapy to achieve blood pressure goals. It is typically prescribed when monotherapy with either component alone does not adequately control blood pressure.

Losartan blocks angiotensin II receptors, preventing blood vessel constriction; hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that helps the kidneys remove excess fluid and salt from the body. Together, they reduce blood volume and relax blood vessels to lower blood pressure.

Should not be used during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to risk of fetal harm. May cause dizziness, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalances. Regular monitoring of kidney function and electrolytes may be needed. Avoid potassium supplements unless directed by a physician.
