Idhifa is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with an isocitrate dehydrogenase-2 (IDH2) mutation. Genetic testing is required to confirm the presence of the IDH2 mutation before starting treatment.

Idhifa is an IDH2 inhibitor that blocks the activity of mutated IDH2 enzymes. In AML with IDH2 mutations, these abnormal enzymes produce high levels of an oncometabolite that promotes the growth and survival of cancer cells. By inhibiting this process, Idhifa helps restore normal cell differentiation.

Idhifa may cause differentiation syndrome, a serious condition that can be life-threatening and requires prompt treatment. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and elevated bilirubin. Patients should be monitored for signs of differentiation syndrome, and healthcare providers should confirm IDH2 mutation status prior to initiating therapy.
