Common uses

Value:Hypertension treatment

Common therapeutic uses - used for essential hypertension and heart failure

Treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure. May also be used to slow the progression of diabetic nephropathy.

Imidapril is a prodrug that is converted to imidaprilat, which inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). This prevents the formation of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.

Common side effects include dry cough and dizziness. Contraindicated during pregnancy and in patients with a history of angioedema. May cause hyperkalemia, especially when combined with potassium-sparing diuretics. Blood pressure and kidney function should be monitored during treatment.
