Rabies Vaccine
Imovax is a brand-name rabies vaccine used to protect against rabies virus infection. It is administered for both pre-exposure prevention in high-risk individuals (such as veterinarians, animal handlers, and travelers to endemic areas) and post-exposure treatment following potential rabies exposure, typically in conjunction with rabies immune globulin. The vaccine contains inactivated rabies virus antigens that stimulate the immune system to produce protective antibodies.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis for individuals at increased risk of rabies exposure (veterinarians, wildlife handlers, laboratory workers, travelers to endemic regions) and post-exposure prophylaxis following suspected or confirmed rabies exposure from animal bites or scratches.
Imovax is an inactivated (killed) vaccine containing rabies virus grown in cell culture. It stimulates the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies against the rabies virus without causing the disease. This provides protection by enabling the body to recognize and fight the virus if exposure occurs.
Imovax is not a live vaccine and cannot cause rabies. For post-exposure prophylaxis, it should be administered promptly along with wound care and rabies immune globulin when indicated. Vaccination schedules differ for pre-exposure (3 doses) versus post-exposure protocols. Common side effects may include injection site reactions, headache, or mild systemic symptoms. Individuals with severe allergies to any vaccine component should not receive this product.
