Levodopa
Inbrija is an inhaled formulation of levodopa used to treat OFF episodes in people with Parkinson's disease who are already taking carbidopa/levodopa. Inbrija is indicated for the intermittent treatment of OFF episodes in patients with Parkinson's disease who are currently taking carbidopa/levodopa. It is not intended for use as initial therapy for Parkinson's disease.
Inbrija contains levodopa, a dopamine precursor that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted to dopamine in the brain. The inhalation delivery method allows for rapid absorption through the lungs, providing faster onset of action compared to oral formulations during OFF episodes.
Inbrija is for oral inhalation only and should not be used by patients with asthma, COPD, or other chronic lung diseases. It may cause falls, cough, or upper respiratory tract infections. Patients should not exceed the prescribed dose and should continue their regular carbidopa/levodopa regimen. As with all levodopa products, dyskinesia may occur or worsen with use.
