Overdose information

Important overdose information
Toxic dose: Dose varies greatly by individual insulin sensitivity; doses over 200 units may cause severe hypoglycemia in most adults
Chronic overdose: Repeated excessive dosing leading to recurrent severe hypoglycemia episodes
Immediate actions
Administer oral glucose if conscious, intravenous dextrose if unconscious, monitor blood glucose continuously
Antidote
Glucose/Dextrose(Highly effective; immediate correction of hypoglycemia reverses acute symptoms)
Poison Control: 1-800-222-1222

Approved route of administration

Treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults and children, including Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes when insulin therapy is required for glycemic control.

Insulin aspart is a recombinant analog of human insulin that binds to insulin receptors on cells, promoting glucose uptake into tissues and suppressing hepatic glucose production, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. It has a faster onset and shorter duration compared to regular human insulin.

Should be administered within 5-10 minutes of starting a meal. Must be used as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan including diet and exercise. Blood glucose monitoring is essential. Hypoglycemia is the most common adverse effect. Should not be used during episodes of hypoglycemia or in patients with hypersensitivity to insulin aspart or any excipients.
