Iosat is indicated for use during nuclear emergencies or radiological incidents where radioactive iodide may be released into the environment. It is used to reduce the risk of thyroid cancer and other thyroid disorders caused by absorption of radioactive iodine.
Iosat contains potassium iodide, which provides a high dose of stable iodide that is rapidly absorbed and taken up by the thyroid gland. This saturates the thyroid, preventing radioactive iodide from being absorbed and thereby protecting the gland from radiation damage.
Iosat should only be taken when specifically recommended by public health authorities during a nuclear emergency. It is not a daily supplement and should not be used by individuals with iodine allergies, certain thyroid conditions (such as hyperthyroidism or Graves' disease), or dermatitis herpetiformis. Overuse or unnecessary use can cause thyroid dysfunction.
