Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients undergoing elective hip replacement surgery. It is used when there is a risk of blood clot formation following orthopedic procedures.

Iprivask is a recombinant form of hirudin, a natural anticoagulant found in leech saliva. It works by directly binding to and inhibiting thrombin, an enzyme essential for blood clot formation, thereby preventing the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin.

Administered by subcutaneous injection. Patients should be monitored for bleeding events and signs of hypersensitivity. Not interchangeable with other anticoagulants. Use with caution in patients with impaired kidney function. Regular monitoring of blood parameters may be required.
