Ivabradine
Ivabradine is a heart rate-lowering medication used primarily to treat chronic heart failure and angina pectoris. It selectively reduces heart rate by inhibiting the funny current in the sinoatrial node without affecting blood pressure or cardiac contractility. This medication is typically prescribed when standard treatments like beta-blockers are insufficient or contraindicated.
Ivabradine lowers heart rate by blocking HCN channels in the heart's natural pacemaker to treat heart failure and angina.

Ivabradine is indicated for the treatment of chronic heart failure (NYHA class II-IV) with reduced ejection fraction in patients with elevated heart rate, and for symptomatic treatment of chronic stable angina pectoris in patients who cannot tolerate or have contraindications to beta-blockers.
Ivabradine selectively inhibits the hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels that carry the 'funny current' in the sinoatrial node. This action slows the spontaneous depolarization rate, thereby reducing heart rate during both rest and activity without affecting myocardial contractility or blood pressure.
Ivabradine should not be used in patients with sick sinus syndrome, sinoatrial block, or those dependent on pacemakers. Common side effects include visual disturbances (phosphenes) and bradycardia. It is contraindicated during pregnancy and should be used with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment. Heart rate should be monitored regularly during treatment.
