Ivomec is used in veterinary medicine to treat and prevent infections caused by internal parasites (such as roundworms, lungworms, and heartworms) and external parasites (including mites, ticks, and lice) in cattle, sheep, horses, swine, and other animals.

Ivomec contains ivermectin, which binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels in parasite nerve and muscle cells, causing increased chloride ion flow, cellular paralysis, and eventual death of susceptible parasites.

Ivomec is for veterinary use only and must be administered according to species-specific dosing guidelines. Certain dog breeds (especially Collies and related breeds) are sensitive to ivermectin. It should not be used in animals intended for human food in certain countries without observing appropriate withdrawal periods. Consult a veterinarian before use.
