Jevtana is indicated for the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) in adults who have previously been treated with a docetaxel-containing regimen. It is used when the cancer has spread and no longer responds to hormone therapy.
Jevtana is a microtubule inhibitor that binds to and stabilizes microtubules, preventing their disassembly. This disrupts critical cellular functions including cell division and intracellular transport, leading to cell death in rapidly dividing cancer cells.
Jevtana is administered as an intravenous infusion every 3 weeks. Pre-medication with corticosteroids is required. Serious risks include severe neutropenia, hypersensitivity reactions, and gastrointestinal complications. Regular blood monitoring is essential. Patients with severe liver impairment should not use this medication. Common side effects include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and hair loss.
