Used to treat type 2 diabetes in adults when diet, exercise, and single-agent therapy are not adequately controlling blood glucose levels.

Linagliptin increases insulin release and decreases glucagon secretion, while metformin decreases glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues.

Not for use in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Should be used with caution in patients with kidney impairment. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal symptoms. Must be taken with meals to reduce GI side effects.
