Treatment and prevention of hypophosphatemia (low blood phosphate levels), often used in patients with chronic kidney disease, malnutrition, Fanconi syndrome, or those receiving long-term parenteral nutrition who require phosphate supplementation.
Provides exogenous phosphate ions (as potassium and sodium phosphates) that are absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and help restore normal serum phosphate levels, supporting essential cellular functions including energy metabolism and bone mineralization.
Should be taken with a full glass of water and food to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, hyperphosphatemia, or hyperkalemia. Regular monitoring of serum phosphate, potassium, and sodium levels is recommended during treatment. May interact with ACE inhibitors, potassium-sparing diuretics, and certain antacids.
