Kanjinti is indicated for HER2-positive breast cancer (early-stage, metastatic, and as adjuvant therapy) and HER2-positive metastatic gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma. Treatment is typically reserved for patients whose tumors demonstrate HER2 protein overexpression or gene amplification.
Kanjinti is a monoclonal antibody that specifically binds to the HER2 receptor on cancer cells. By targeting HER2, it inhibits the signals that promote cancer cell growth and division, and may also signal the immune system to destroy HER2-positive cancer cells.
Kanjinti is administered as an intravenous infusion. It carries warnings for potential cardiac toxicity (including heart failure), infusion-related reactions, and fetal harm. Patients should be monitored for signs of cardiac dysfunction during treatment. As a biosimilar, Kanjinti has demonstrated no clinically meaningful differences from the reference product.
