Kesimpta is indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis in adults, including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting MS, and active secondary progressive MS.
Kesimpta is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the CD20 protein on the surface of B-cells, leading to their depletion through immune mechanisms. By reducing B-cells that contribute to nerve damage and inflammation, it helps decrease MS relapses and slow disease progression.
Kesimpta may increase the risk of infections and infusion-related reactions. Patients should be monitored for signs of infection during treatment and for some time after discontinuing therapy. Vaccination with live vaccines is not recommended during treatment. Patients should be screened for hepatitis B before starting therapy. Common side effects may include upper respiratory tract infections, headache, and injection-related reactions.
