Overdose information

Important overdose information
Toxic dose: Single dose exceeding 2400 mg may cause serious toxicity including severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and CNS depression
Chronic overdose: Prolonged use exceeding recommended duration or cumulative dosing can lead to bone marrow suppression (anemia, thrombocytopenia), lactic acidosis, peripheral neuropathy, and hepatotoxicity
Immediate actions
gastric lavage within 1-2 hours of ingestion, activated charcoal, supportive care, close monitoring of hematological parameters and acid-base status
Antidote
no specific antidote(treatment is supportive and symptomatic, effectiveness depends on early intervention)

Pharmacodynamic properties

Treats nosocomial pneumonia, community-acquired pneumonia, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections, and other serious gram-positive bacterial infections.

Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing the formation of a functional 70S initiation complex essential for bacterial growth.

Requires regular monitoring of complete blood counts due to risk of bone marrow suppression. Has significant drug interactions with MAO inhibitors and serotonergic medications. Typically reserved as a second-line agent for serious infections when standard antibiotics are ineffective.
