Linzess is FDA-approved for treating irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults. It helps relieve abdominal pain, bloating, and infrequent bowel movements associated with these conditions.

Linzess contains linaclotide, a guanylate cyclase-C (GC-C) agonist. It binds to receptors in the intestine, increasing the secretion of fluid into the bowel and accelerating transit time, which softens stool and promotes bowel movements.

Take Linzess at least 30 minutes before the first meal of the day on an empty stomach. Common side effects include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and gas. It is contraindicated in pediatric patients and should not be used in patients with known or suspected mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction. Do not use if you are allergic to linaclotide or any of its ingredients.
