Livtencity is indicated for the treatment of CMV infection or disease in adult recipients of hematopoietic stem cell transplants or solid organ transplants who are refractory or resistant to standard treatments like ganciclovir, valganciclovir, cidofovir, or foscarnet.

Livtencity works by inhibiting the CMV UL97 protein kinase, an enzyme essential for viral DNA replication, assembly, and release of infectious virions. This targeted action helps control CMV viral load in patients who have developed resistance to traditional nucleoside analog antivirals.

Livtencity may cause side effects including taste disturbances, nausea, diarrhea, and fatigue. It can interact with multiple medications metabolized by CYP3A enzymes and P-gp, requiring careful review of concurrent medications. Treatment should be initiated and monitored by physicians experienced in managing CMV infections in transplant patients.
