Lotrimin is used to treat tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), and tinea corporis (ringworm). It is also effective against cutaneous candidiasis and pityriasis versicolor. The medication targets the fungal infection directly at the site of application.
Lotrimin contains clotrimazole, an azole antifungal that works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. By disrupting this critical structure, the medication causes the fungal cell to become unstable and eventually die, clearing the infection.
Apply Lotrimin twice daily as directed, typically for 1-4 weeks depending on the condition. Continue use for 14 days after symptoms resolve to prevent recurrence. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, and mouth. If symptoms don't improve within 4 weeks, consult a healthcare provider. Not for use on nails or scalp infections.
