Mayzent is indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis in adults, including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting MS, and active secondary progressive disease.
Mayzent is a sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) receptor modulator that binds to S1P receptors on lymphocytes, preventing them from leaving lymph nodes and entering the central nervous system, thereby reducing immune-mediated inflammation and damage to nerve fibers.
Mayzent requires genetic testing (CYP2C9) before initiation to determine appropriate dosing. Common side effects include headache, hypertension, liver enzyme elevations, and dizziness. It may cause bradycardia upon initiation, increase risk of infections, and may cause macular edema. Patients should be monitored for respiratory function and skin lesions during treatment.
