Prevention of measles (rubeola) infection in individuals without contraindications, typically administered to children as part of routine immunization schedules and to susceptible adults lacking measles immunity or prior infection.
Contains live but weakened (attenuated) measles virus of the Schwarz strain that stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies against the measles virus without causing the actual disease, providing long-lasting immunity.
Contraindicated in immunocompromised patients, pregnant individuals, and those with severe egg allergies. Should not be given concurrently with immune globulin. Common side effects include fever and mild rash. Vaccine recipients may shed the attenuated virus briefly but are not considered contagious to others.
