Menest is used to treat moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms of menopause, vaginal atrophy, and to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis. It may also be prescribed for estrogen deficiency due to hypogonadism, castration, or primary ovarian insufficiency.

Menest contains esterified estrogens (sodium estrone sulfate and sodium equilin sulfate) that bind to estrogen receptors in various tissues throughout the body, supplementing declining natural estrogen levels and alleviating menopausal symptoms while helping maintain bone density.

Should not be used during pregnancy. Associated with increased risks of endometrial cancer (when used without progestin), stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and breast cancer. Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration consistent with treatment goals. Contraindicated in patients with estrogen-dependent tumors, undiagnosed genital bleeding, or active thrombophlebitis.
