Menveo is indicated for active immunization against invasive meningococcal disease caused by serogroups A, C, W, and Y. It is recommended for individuals aged 2 months through 55 years, with particular emphasis for adolescents (typically 11-12 years with booster at 16), college students living in dormitories, and those traveling to or residing in regions where meningococcal disease is endemic.
Menveo works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against polysaccharide antigens found on the surface of Neisseria meningitidis bacteria. The vaccine contains oligosaccharide and conjugate proteins that help induce protective immunity against the four included serogroups.
Menveo is contraindicated in individuals with known severe hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine. Common side effects may include injection site reactions, headache, fatigue, and nausea. As with all vaccines, it may not protect all recipients from developing the disease. Vaccination decisions should be made in consultation with a healthcare provider based on individual risk factors.
