Primarily used for treatment and management of peptic ulcers, including gastric and duodenal ulcers. May also be used for other conditions involving excessive gastrointestinal secretions or spasms.

Functions as a muscarinic receptor antagonist, blocking acetylcholine from binding to receptors in the smooth muscle of the GI tract. This reduces gastric acid secretions, decreases intestinal motility, and helps relieve associated cramping and spasms.

Use with caution in patients with glaucoma, urinary retention, benign prostatic hyperplasia, or cardiac conditions. Common side effects include dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, and decreased sweating. May interact with other anticholinergic medications. Not typically used as first-line therapy for ulcers.
