Metaraminol
Metaraminol is a sympathomimetic vasopressor agent used to prevent and treat acute hypotension during anesthesia, surgery, and in shock states. It acts primarily through indirect adrenergic stimulation to increase blood pressure and cardiac output. This medication is typically administered intravenously in acute care settings when rapid hemodynamic support is needed.

Prevention and treatment of acute hypotension occurring during spinal anesthesia, general anesthesia, or surgery. Also used in shock states including septic shock and hemorrhagic shock when blood pressure support is needed.
Acts primarily as an indirect-acting sympathomimetic by displacing norepinephrine from storage granules in nerve terminals, leading to increased norepinephrine availability at alpha-adrenergic receptors. This causes peripheral vasoconstriction and increases systolic and diastolic blood pressure, with some direct beta-1 cardiac stimulation.
Should be used with caution in patients with hyperthyroidism, diabetes, heart disease, or those taking MAO inhibitors. May cause tachycardia, hypertension, arrhythmias, or tissue necrosis if extravasation occurs. Not recommended for prolonged use. Requires careful hemodynamic monitoring during administration.
