Medical termination of early pregnancy (up to 10 weeks gestation), management of Cushing's syndrome in patients with type 2 diabetes or glucose intolerance, and softening and dilation of the cervix before surgical procedures.

Blocks progesterone receptors in the uterus, causing decidual breakdown, cervical softening, and increased uterine sensitivity to prostaglandins. At higher doses, antagonizes glucocorticoid receptors, reducing cortisol effects in conditions like Cushing's syndrome.

Must be used under medical supervision, typically with misoprostol for pregnancy termination. Contraindicated in ectopic pregnancy, chronic adrenal failure, and certain bleeding disorders. Common side effects include abdominal pain, cramping, and vaginal bleeding.
