Acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura, and episodic treatment of cluster headaches in adults.

Ergotamine tartrate acts on serotonin (5-HT1B/1D) and dopamine receptors to cause vasoconstriction of cranial blood vessels, reducing migraine pain. Caffeine enhances ergotamine absorption and contributes additional vasoconstrictive activity.

Contraindicated in patients with cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension, or peripheral vascular disease. Should not be used during pregnancy or with CYP3A4 inhibitors. Risk of medication-overuse headache with frequent use. Associated with rare but serious ergotism and fibrotic complications with prolonged use.
