Moclobemide
Moclobemide is a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A), an enzyme that breaks down neurotransmitters like serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the brain. By temporarily blocking this enzyme, it increases the levels of these mood-regulating chemicals, helping to alleviate symptoms of depression and related conditions.
Moclobemide is an antidepressant that works by reversibly inhibiting MAO-A to increase brain levels of mood-related neurotransmitters.

Primarily used to treat major depressive disorder and depressive episodes. May also be prescribed for social anxiety disorder and dysthymia (chronic mild depression).
Moclobemide selectively and reversibly inhibits monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A), the enzyme responsible for breaking down serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. This leads to increased concentrations of these neurotransmitters in the brain, helping to improve mood and emotional balance.
Unlike older non-selective MAO inhibitors, moclobemide's reversible and selective action means it has significantly fewer tyramine-related interactions, though some dietary caution is still advised. It should not be combined with other serotonergic medications (such as SSRIs or SNRIs) without careful medical supervision due to serotonin syndrome risk. May have a faster onset of action compared to many other antidepressants and is generally associated with fewer anticholinergic side effects.
