Mozobil (plerixafor) is a brand-name medication used as a stem cell mobilizer in adults with certain cancers who need to collect stem cells for transplantation. Mozobil is indicated for hematopoietic stem cell mobilization and collection in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple myeloma prior to autologous transplantation. It is used in combination with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) when stem cell collection is inadequate with G-CSF alone.

Mozobil is a selective antagonist of the CXCR4 chemokine receptor. It blocks the interaction between CXCR4 and its ligand SDF-1 (stromal cell-derived factor-1), which normally keeps stem cells anchored in the bone marrow. By disrupting this interaction, Mozobil causes stem cells to detach and circulate into the peripheral blood, where they can be collected via apheresis.

Mozobil is administered by subcutaneous injection, typically in the evening before each apheresis session. Common side effects may include injection site reactions, gastrointestinal symptoms, and headache. It should be used under the supervision of a physician experienced in oncology or hematology. Patients should be monitored for potential spleen enlargement and blood count changes during treatment.
