Tropicamide is an anticholinergic agent that blocks muscarinic receptors in the eye, causing pupil dilation and paralysis of accommodation. Phenylephrine is an alpha-1 adrenergic agonist that stimulates dilation of the pupil by contracting the dilator pupillae muscle. Together, these agents provide rapid and effective pupil dilation for examination purposes.
