Published: July 26, 2026Updated: July 26, 2026

Nadofaragene firadenovec is a gene therapy used to treat certain types of bladder cancer in adults. It works by delivering a gene that instructs bladder cells to produce interferon-alfa 2b, a protein that helps the immune system fight cancer, directly into the bladder. This treatment is specifically used for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer that has not responded to standard BCG therapy.

Quick summary

Treatment of adults with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) who are unresponsive to or cannot receive BCG therapy.

Delivers a copy of the human interferon-alfa 2b gene directly into bladder cells using a non-replicating adenoviral vector. The transduced cells then produce interferon locally, exerting antitumor effects against cancer cells in the bladder.

Administered as an intravesical instillation directly into the bladder via catheter. As a non-replicating vector, it does not replicate in the body. Patients should be monitored for potential immune responses and local adverse effects. Sexual partners should use precautions as viral DNA may be shed.
