Treatment of moderate to severe endometriosis in women and central precocious puberty in children. Occasionally used in assisted reproduction protocols.

As a GnRH agonist, it initially stimulates then causes downregulation of GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, leading to suppressed release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which results in decreased sex hormone production.

Administered via nasal spray, typically twice daily. Common side effects include hypoestrogenic symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and decreased libido. Should not be used during pregnancy. Long-term use may affect bone density. Treatment duration for endometriosis is typically limited to 6 months.
