Prevention of invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup A. It is recommended for individuals at increased risk of meningococcal exposure or disease, including travelers to endemic regions and those in outbreak situations.

The vaccine contains oligosaccharide antigens from the serogroup A polysaccharide capsule conjugated to CRM197 protein, a nontoxic mutant of diphtheria toxin. This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigen into a T-cell dependent antigen, enhancing immunogenicity particularly in young children and producing durable immune memory.

Administration is by intramuscular injection. As with all vaccines, this may not protect all recipients, and it does not protect against other meningococcal serogroups. Contraindications include severe hypersensitivity to any vaccine component. Common adverse reactions include injection site reactions, fatigue, and headache.
