Prevention of invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup C, including meningitis, meningococcemia, and septicemia. It is part of routine childhood and adolescent immunization schedules in many countries.

The vaccine contains capsular polysaccharide from serogroup C bacteria conjugated to tetanus toxoid protein. This conjugation converts a T-cell independent antigen into a T-cell dependent antigen, enhancing immune response and generating durable protective antibodies, particularly effective in young children.

Administered via intramuscular injection. Common side effects include injection site reactions, mild fever, and irritability. Contraindicated in individuals with severe allergic reactions to any vaccine component. Not a treatment for active infection. Vaccination does not protect against other meningococcal serogroups.
