Prevention of invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup W-135. Used for individuals at increased risk due to travel to endemic regions, outbreak situations, or routine immunization programs in certain countries.

The vaccine contains oligosaccharide antigens from the W-135 capsular polysaccharide conjugated to diphtheria CRM197 protein. This conjugation converts a T-cell independent response to a T-cell dependent response, enhancing immunogenicity and inducing protective antibodies against serogroup W-135.

Administered by intramuscular injection. Contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to vaccine components. Common side effects include injection site reactions, fever, and irritability. Not a substitute for chemoprophylaxis in close contacts of confirmed cases.
