Prevention of invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup Y. Recommended for adolescents, college students living in dormitories, military recruits, individuals with certain immune conditions or functional asplenia, and those traveling to or residing in areas with high endemic rates.

The vaccine contains purified capsular polysaccharides from N. meningitidis serogroup Y chemically linked (conjugated) to diphtheria toxoid protein. This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigen into a T-cell dependent antigen, producing stronger antibody responses and immunological memory in recipients of all ages.

Common side effects may include injection site reactions, fatigue, and headache. Contraindications include severe allergic reactions to any vaccine component. Vaccination does not protect against all meningococcal serogroups. Inform healthcare providers of any history of Guillain-Barré syndrome or bleeding disorders before administration.
