Obiltoxaximab
Obiltoxaximab is a monoclonal antibody medication designed to treat and prevent anthrax, a serious infection caused by Bacillus anthracis bacteria. It works by binding to the protective antigen component of the anthrax toxin, preventing the toxin from entering and damaging human cells. This medication is used in both adult and pediatric patients for treatment of anthrax disease (in combination with other antibacterial drugs) and for post-exposure prophylaxis when standard antibiotics are not appropriate.
Obiltoxaximab is a monoclonal antibody that treats and prevents anthrax by neutralizing the anthrax toxin.
This medication carries a boxed (black box) warning — the strongest type of FDA warning. Review the full prescribing information before use.

Mechanism of action
Pharmacological mechanism
Treatment of inhalational, cutaneous, or gastrointestinal anthrax in adult and pediatric patients (used in combination with appropriate antibacterial drugs); prophylaxis of anthrax when alternative therapies are not suitable or available.
Obiltoxaximab is a monoclonal antibody that specifically binds to the protective antigen (PA) of Bacillus anthracis, blocking the PA from interacting with cellular receptors and preventing the anthrax toxin from entering and damaging host cells.
Administered as an intravenous infusion; should be used with appropriate antibacterial drugs for treatment of anthrax disease; monitor for infusion-related reactions; included in the Strategic National Stockpile for biodefense preparedness.
