Ongentys is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson's disease in patients experiencing end-of-dose 'off' episodes despite optimized levodopa/carbidopa therapy. It is used as an adjunct treatment to reduce OFF time.

Ongentys contains opicapone, a catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor. It works by inhibiting the COMT enzyme that breaks down levodopa in the peripheral body, thereby prolonging levodopa's duration of action and increasing its availability to the brain.

Ongentys is taken once daily at bedtime, at least one hour before or after levodopa combinations. Common side effects may include dyskinesia, dizziness, and constipation. Patients should inform their doctor about all medications and health conditions before starting treatment, as it may interact with other drugs.
