Onzetra is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine headaches with or without aura in adults. It is not used for migraine prevention and should not be used to treat cluster headaches or other types of headaches.

Onzetra contains sumatriptan, a serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist. As a triptan medication, it works by binding to specific serotonin receptors in the brain and blood vessels, causing vasoconstriction of cranial blood vessels and reducing inflammation and pain signals associated with migraine attacks.

Onzetra should not be used by patients with cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension, or those who have taken ergotamine or other triptans within 24 hours. Common side effects may include changes in taste, nasal discomfort, and dizziness. Patients should seek emergency medical attention if they experience chest pain, tightness, or signs of a stroke after taking this medication.
