Parathyroid hormone is a synthetic form of the naturally occurring hormone that regulates calcium and phosphate balance in the body. Treatment of chronic hypoparathyroidism when calcium levels cannot be adequately controlled with calcium and active vitamin D supplementation alone. May also be used in select cases of osteoporosis.

Parathyroid hormone increases serum calcium by stimulating bone formation and resorption, enhancing renal calcium reabsorption, and promoting intestinal calcium absorption through increased vitamin D activation.

Requires careful monitoring of serum calcium levels to avoid hypercalcemia. Contraindicated in patients with Paget's disease, skeletal malignancies, or history of bone radiation. Not recommended for patients at risk for osteosarcoma. Administered via subcutaneous injection, typically in the thigh or abdomen.
