Pemfexy is indicated for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma (in combination with cisplatin) and locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It may be used as initial treatment, maintenance therapy, or as a second-line treatment depending on the cancer type and patient circumstances.

Pemfexy contains pemetrexed, which acts as a folate antagonist that inhibits multiple enzymes involved in DNA synthesis, including thymidylate synthase, dihydrofolate reductase, and glycinamide ribonucleotide formyltransferase. By disrupting these key pathways, it prevents cancer cells from multiplying effectively.

Pemfexy is administered by intravenous infusion by a healthcare professional. Patients typically receive vitamin B12 and folic acid supplementation before and during treatment to reduce side effects. Regular blood monitoring is required during treatment. Common side effects may include fatigue, nausea, and low blood cell counts. This medication should only be used under the supervision of an oncologist experienced in chemotherapy.
