Phoslyra is indicated for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia (elevated serum phosphorus) in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or chronic kidney disease (CKD) who are receiving dialysis.

Phoslyra contains calcium acetate as its active ingredient. It works by binding to dietary phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract, forming an insoluble calcium-phosphate complex that is excreted in feces, thereby reducing the absorption of phosphate from food.

Phoslyra should be taken with meals for maximum effectiveness. Patients should be monitored for hypercalcemia and may need to adjust dietary calcium intake. Other medications should be taken at least 1 hour before or 3 hours after Phoslyra to avoid reduced absorption.
