Pindolol
Pindolol is a non-selective beta-blocker medication used primarily to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pain). It works by blocking both beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors, reducing heart rate and the force of heart contractions while also decreasing blood pressure. Unlike many other beta-blockers, pindolol has intrinsic sympathomimetic activity (ISA), meaning it has partial agonist properties at beta receptors.
Pindolol is a non-selective beta-blocker with unique partial agonist activity, used to treat hypertension and angina.

Pindolol is primarily prescribed for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (chest pain). It may also be used in some cases for migraine prevention and anxiety-related symptoms.
Pindolol blocks both beta-1 receptors (primarily found in the heart) and beta-2 receptors (found in blood vessels, lungs, and other tissues). This reduces heart rate, decreases the force of heart contractions, and lowers blood pressure. Its unique intrinsic sympathomimetic activity (ISA) provides partial agonist effects, which may result in less resting bradycardia compared to other beta-blockers.
Pindolol should not be discontinued abruptly as this may cause rebound hypertension or angina. Common side effects include fatigue, dizziness, and cold extremities. It may worsen symptoms in patients with certain heart conditions (such as severe bradycardia or heart block) and should be used cautiously in patients with asthma or diabetes. Alcohol and other blood pressure medications may enhance its effects.
