Piqray is indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal women and men with HR-positive, HER2-negative, advanced or metastatic breast cancer with a PIK3CA mutation, used in combination with fulvestrant (hormone therapy). A diagnostic test must confirm the presence of the PIK3CA mutation before treatment.
Piqray works by inhibiting the PI3K (phosphoinositide 3-kinase) pathway. The PIK3CA gene mutation causes overactivation of this pathway, which promotes cancer cell growth and survival. By blocking this signaling, Piqray helps slow or stop cancer progression.
Piqray should be taken once daily with food. Common side effects include hyperglycemia (elevated blood sugar), rash, diarrhea, and fatigue. Patients require regular blood glucose monitoring during treatment. Severe skin reactions may occur in some patients. Always consult a healthcare provider for personalized medical advice.
