Polivy is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) who have received at least two prior therapies. It is typically used in combination with bendamustine and a rituximab product.
Polivy is a CD79b-directed antibody-drug conjugate (ADC). It binds to the CD79b protein found on the surface of B-cells, including cancerous B-cells. Once bound, the medication enters the cell and releases a cytotoxic agent (monomethyl auristatin E) that disrupts the cell's microtubules, leading to cell death.
Polivy is administered by intravenous infusion. Common side effects include low blood cell counts, nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy), fatigue, and infusion-related reactions. It may cause serious liver problems and increase the risk of infections. Pregnant women should not use Polivy as it can harm an unborn baby. Treatment should be supervised by an oncologist experienced in cancer therapy.
