Ponesimod
Ponesimod is an immunosuppressant medication used to treat adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). It works by modulating the sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1, preventing lymphocytes from exiting lymph nodes and reducing their circulation in the bloodstream.
Ponesimod is an S1P receptor modulator used for relapsing MS that reduces lymphocyte circulation by trapping them in lymph nodes.

Ponesimod is indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis, including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease in adults.
Ponesimod binds to and activates sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1P1), causing internalization of the receptor and preventing lymphocytes from migrating out of lymphoid tissues. This traps immune cells in lymph nodes, reducing their numbers in circulation and limiting their ability to attack the central nervous system.
Requires cardiac monitoring before initiation due to potential heart rate effects. May increase risk of infections and liver injury. Contraindicated in patients with certain cardiac conditions. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during and after treatment.
