Prinivil is primarily prescribed for hypertension (high blood pressure), heart failure, and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). It may also be used long-term to improve survival and prevent hospitalization in patients with heart failure.

As an ACE inhibitor, Prinivil blocks the angiotensin-converting enzyme, preventing the formation of angiotensin II. This causes blood vessels to relax and widen, reducing blood pressure and decreasing the workload on the heart.

Common side effects include dry cough, dizziness, and headache. It should not be used during pregnancy as it may harm the fetus. Patients should inform their doctor of any kidney problems or history of angioedema before starting treatment.
