Quillivant XR is FDA-approved for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years of age and older. It may be used as part of a comprehensive treatment program that includes behavioral therapy.
As a CNS stimulant, Quillivant XR contains methylphenidate, which works by blocking the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain, increasing their availability. This helps improve attention, focus, and impulse control in individuals with ADHD.
Quillivant XR is a Schedule II controlled substance with high potential for abuse and dependence. Common side effects may include decreased appetite, insomnia, headache, and abdominal pain. It should not be used in patients with glaucoma, tics, or those currently taking or within 14 days of taking MAO inhibitors. Cardiac monitoring may be recommended in some patients.
