Quinagolide
Quinagolide is a dopamine agonist medication primarily used to treat conditions associated with elevated prolactin hormone levels, such as hyperprolactinemia and prolactin-secreting pituitary tumors (prolactinomas). It works by stimulating dopamine receptors in the pituitary gland to reduce prolactin production. This medication is typically prescribed when other treatments are not effective or tolerated.

Treatment of hyperprolactinemia (elevated prolactin levels), prolactinomas (prolactin-secreting pituitary adenomas), and associated conditions such as menstrual irregularities, infertility, and galactorrhea (milk production). May also be used for selective suppression of lactation in specific clinical situations.
Quinagolide is a non-ergot dopamine D2 receptor agonist that acts directly on lactotroph cells in the anterior pituitary gland. By stimulating D2 receptors, it inhibits prolactin synthesis and secretion, thereby reducing circulating prolactin levels.
May cause side effects such as nausea, headache, dizziness, and hypotension, particularly when initiating therapy. Requires gradual dose titration to improve tolerability. Should be used with caution in patients with psychiatric disorders or cardiovascular conditions. Regular monitoring of prolactin levels and tumor size may be necessary during treatment. Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to quinagolide.
