Quizartinib

Published: July 26, 2026Updated: July 26, 2026

Quizartinib is an oral targeted therapy that inhibits the FLT3 receptor tyrosine kinase, which is commonly mutated in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It is specifically indicated for adult patients with relapsed or refractory FLT3-ITD positive AML. By blocking FLT3 signaling, quizartinib helps suppress the growth and survival of leukemic cells that depend on this pathway.

Quick summary

Quizartinib is an FLT3 inhibitor used to treat adults with relapsed or refractory FLT3-ITD positive acute myeloid leukemia.

Quizartinib is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that harbors an FLT3-ITD mutation. FLT3-ITD (internal tandem duplication) is one of the most common genetic alterations in AML and is associated with a poorer prognosis.

Quizartinib is a small molecule that reversibly binds to the ATP-binding domain of FLT3 receptor tyrosine kinase, inhibiting its enzymatic activity. Both quizartinib and its major active metabolite AC886 potently inhibit FLT3, blocking downstream signaling pathways that promote cell proliferation and survival in FLT3-mutant leukemia cells.

Quizartinib is an oral medication typically taken once daily. Common adverse effects may include myelosuppression, infections, and cardiac effects including QT prolongation. Treatment should be initiated by physicians experienced in managing AML. Genetic testing for FLT3-ITD mutation status is required prior to treatment initiation.
